Max Verstappen Reacts To Liam Lawson Saga

Following a below-par performance in Australia and China, Liam Lawson has been demoted to Racing Bulls and Yuki Tsunoda has been picked as a replacement by the Red Bull. The episode has transpired ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix.

Shortly after the announcement was made about Lawson's replacement, Verstappen appeared to highlight that he was less than impressed with the way the team handled the whole situation. His thoughts were pertinent after he liked a post on Instagram by the former driver Giedo van der Garde, who described Red Bull’s treatment of Lawson as “closer to bullying or a panic move” and that they “gave Liam two races only to crush his spirit.”

It is no secret that Max Verstappen was approached by Marcedes last year and he was also linked with a move to Aston Mattin, who have the wherewithal to acquire the services of the Dutchman. Him not being on the same page with Red Bull may cause interested parties to smell the opportunity again and come in contact with Max Verstappen in the near future.

Lawson was promoted at the end of 2024 and came in as a replacement for Sergio Perez, who was having a hard time behind the wheel. Red Bull took the harsh decision after it finished third behind McLaren and Ferrari last season, despite Verstappen reclaiming the drivers' title.

Red Bull were confident that Lawson would provide the much-needed support to Verstappen but they lost the patience with him after just two races in the season.

Immediately after the race in Shanghai, his future was thrown into doubt and on Thursday morning Red Bull replaced him with Tsunoda, the Japanese driver who has been with Racing Bulls since 2021.
