Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on the 78th Independence Day from the iconic Red Fort in New Delhi. In his speech, he lauded the achievements of the Indian contingent at the recently concluded Paris Olympics, where India secured a total of six medals. Recognising the athletes' efforts, Modi extended his best wishes to the Paralympic team for the upcoming games.
A significant highlight of the Prime Minister's address was the announcement of India's aspiration to host the 2036 Olympics. Expressing confidence in the country's ability to successfully organize such a mega event, Modi stated that preparations for the bid are already underway.

"Today, we also have with us the youth who made the Indian flag fly high in Olympics. On behalf of 140 crore countrymen, I congratulate all our athletes and players. In the next few days, a huge contingent of India will leave for Paris to participate in the Paralympics. I extend best wishes to all our Paralympians," PM Modi said while addressing the nation.
"India organised the G20 Summit in India and hosted over 200 events across the nation. It proved that India has the ability to organise big events. As this has been proven, it is now India's dream to host the 2036 Olympics in India, and we are preparing for that," he further added.

India's Olympic Ambitions
Hosting the 2036 Olympics will be a monumental undertaking for India. Nevertheless, the nation's leadership has consistently expressed its desire to bring the prestigious event to the country. At the recently concluded Paris Olympics, India secured six medals, one less than their previous best of seven at the Tokyo 2020 Games. Neeraj Chopra won silver in the men's javelin, while the shooting team, led by Manu Bhaker, which also featured Sarabjot Singh and Swapnil Kusale, claimed three bronze medals. Aman Sehrawat secured a bronze in men's freestyle wrestling, and the Indian hockey team, captained by Harmanpreet Singh, also clinched a bronze medal.
