Transgender women athletes have been banned from competing in all female events at the Olympics following US President Donald Trump's executive order ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
OC bans transgender women from women's Olympic following Trump’s order
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has introduced a new policy requiring a one-time SRY gene test to verify biological sex for women's events at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, effectively excluding transgender women who were born male. As per IOC, the new policy will apply from the LA Olympics in July 2028 and will "protect fairness, safety and integrity in the female category.”
The move prioritizes fairness in competition by addressing retained physiological advantages from male puberty, such as greater muscle mass, bone density, and strength, even after hormone therapy.
This policy aligns with U.S. President Donald Trump's executive order, which restricts federal funding and visas for international sporting events that permit biological males in women's categories, prompting compliance from U.S. Olympic authorities.
