India's runner Avinash Sable failed to clinch a medal in the 3000m steeplechase event of athletics at the Paris Olympics 2024. He was the first Indian male athlete to participate in the finals of this event. Sable made it to the finals by finishing fifth in the second heat of the qualification round with a time of 8 minutes 15.43 seconds. But after this, he took 8:14.18 time in the final and with this, he finished in 11th position. El Bakkali Soufiane from Morocco clinched the gold medal after finishing in 8:06.05. On the other hand, Rooks Kenneth from the United States settled for silver and Kibiwot Abraham. Sable lost the gold medal by nine seconds.

Talking about Avinash Sable, he first made his debut in the Asian Athletics Championship in Doha in the year 2019. After this, Avinash Sable won the gold medal in the 2023 Asian Games. With this Sable became the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal for India in this event. Even after this, Sable did not stop and he also won a silver medal in the 2022 Commonwealth Games. He became the first Indian to win a medal in the 3000-meter steeplechase in the Commonwealth Games. However, he could not make it to the finals of this event in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
