Paris Olympics: India's golf campaign comes to a halt as Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar miss out on podium

India's pursuit of an podium finish in golf came to an end on Saturday, August 10 as Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar were unable to secure a medal at Paris Olympics 2024.

India Falls Short in Olympic Golf

Despite showing promise in the initial rounds, the duo couldn't maintain their momentum. New Zealand's Lydia Ko emerged victorious, claiming the gold medal with a score of 10 under par. Germany's Esther Henseleit and China's Lin Xiyu Janet secured the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Aditi and Diksha Struggle in Final Round

Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar began the final round tied for 40th position. While Aditi faced a challenging start to the tournament, she managed to improve her performance in the second round, climbing to a tie for 40th place. However, she was unable to maintain this momentum in the third round, slipping back to the 40th position.

Diksha's Decline

Diksha Dagar made a strong start to the tournament, securing a podium position on the second day. Unfortunately, a series of bogeys hindered her progress, resulting in a drop to a tie for 14th place with Aditi Ashok. The third round proved challenging for both players, as they encountered multiple bogeys, ultimately leading to their positions outside the top 30.

At the conclusion of the third round, Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar were positioned at T40 and T42, respectively. On the final day, Diksha's performance declined, leading to a drop of seven positions and a final ranking of T49 with a total score of 301 points. In contrast, Aditi finished the day on a positive note with multiple birdies, securing a final position of 29th with a score of 290 points. As the Olympics draw to a close tomorrow, India's medal hopes now rest on wrestler Reetika Hooda, who awaits the outcome of the repechage rounds. So far India has won six medals, one less than their Tokyo Olympics tally. Manu Bhaker, Sarabjot Singh and Swapnil Kusale won India three bronze medals in shooting while Harmanpreet Singh-led Indian hockey team too clinched the bronze metal. Javelin superstar Neeraj Chopra won silver medal while Aman Sehrawat brought bronze medal for India to become the youngest Indian olympian to taste glory in Games.
