India achieved a remarkable 1-2 finish at the Asian Games with Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Jena securing Gold and Silver medals, respectively.
Neeraj Chopra clinched the gold with a season's best throw of 88.88m, while Kishore Jena bagged the silver, setting a personal record with a throw of 87.54m.
At first, Neeraj Chopra faced an unforeseen challenge when officials, due to a technical glitch, failed to record his first throw. While the throw seemed to exceed 85m, Chopra's waiting was prolonged as officials were engrossed in an animated discussion about the oversight.

In the midst of unfolding events, Chopra was asked to redo his initial throw. The first attempt, already marked by officials, was overlooked when the next competitor was permitted to go ahead. When Neeraj took his turn once more, his throw was slightly less at 82.38m.
Adding to the confusion, another oversight occurred. Kishore Jena's seemingly perfect throw was mistakenly deemed a foul. Displaying true sportsmanship, Neeraj Chopra passionately discussed the matter with officials on Jena's behalf, leading to the decision being overturned.
Neeraj Chopra triumphs despite challenges
Even with the chaotic start, Chopra's resilience was evident. He successfully retained his Asian Games javelin gold medal with a season-best throw of 88.88m. Kishore Jena, equally impressive, recorded two personal bests, securing the silver with a throw of 87.54m. Jena also secured his spot for the Paris Olympics with a throw of 85.50m. For a short time during the final, Jena was in the lead until Chopra's exceptional fourth attempt.
Commenting on the unusual events, Neeraj Chopra stated, “The measurement was off. The subsequent athlete threw right after me, leading to the mark being lost. They spent time looking for the landing spot. I approached the officials for clarity. I was confident in my throw. While they couldn't determine the exact mark, they allowed me another first attempt."
“The delays affected the competition for everyone. The windy conditions were making athletes cold. This situation was a first for me. Typically, there are six throws, but I had seven."
Despite the early hiccups, Chopra remained positive. "I had aimed for 90m, but given the issues with my initial throw... it's alright. I'm pleased with securing a medal for my nation. 88.88m is commendable," he expressed.
Kishore Jena's impressive journey to Paris 2024
Neeraj Chopra, showcasing true sportsmanship, praised Kishore Jena during the event. Jena's third attempt, a commendable 86.77m, temporarily placed him in the lead. He later surpassed this with a throw of 87.54m.
"I'm genuinely pleased for Kishore Jena today. He was at the forefront, performing exceptionally. The competition was thrilling. His Olympic qualification is noteworthy. We motivated each other," Neeraj shared.
"This is common. Even in Diamond Leagues, the rivalry continues until the 6th attempt. We challenge each other. The belief is to stay committed until the final throw. While I have the experience, Kishore Jena made the competition truly memorable. I'm genuinely happy for him," he continued.
