The World Athletics Championships in Budapest are set to witness a significant Indian presence in the women's 3000m steeplechase final showdown on Sunday, August 27. This event, traditionally dominated by African runners, will see Parul Chaudhary, hailing from Meerut, India, taking on the challenge against some of the world's distance running elites. Renowned athletes such as Faith Cherotich, Beatrice Chepkoech, and Jackline Chepkoech from Kenya, along with Sembo Almayew, Zerfe Wondemagegn, Lomi Muleta from Ethiopia, and Peruth Chemutai from Uganda will be competing in the final slated for Sunday in Budapest.

Marking a significant milestone, Parul Chaudhary has risen to become the second Indian female athlete to clinch a spot in the final round of a track event at the World Athletics Championships. This distinction came her way after she clinched the fifth position in her 3000m steeplechase heat.

Before Parul's remarkable achievement, it was Lalita Babar who had secured her place in history by becoming the first Indian female athlete to compete in the finals of a 3000m steeplechase race at such a prestigious platform. This progression of Indian sportswomen in global athletics not only celebrates their accomplishments but also serves as an inspiration, encouraging upcoming athletes to shatter traditional barriers in the global sporting domain.

Parul’s coach, Scott Simmons, lauded her consistent growth and performance. In a conversation with the Times of India (TOI), he remarked, “She (Parul) has shown consistent progress in the last two years. High-altitude training in Colorado has improved her aerobic strength.”

The Indian athletic contingent's prospects in Budapest are not limited to the steeplechase final alone. Neeraj Chopra, D P Manu, and Kishore Jena are preparing to showcase their mettle in the Men’s Javelin Throw Final, scheduled to commence from 11:45 PM IST. Additionally, the Men’s 4x400m Relay Final will see India's participation with a strong team comprising Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Amoj Jacob, Muhammed Ajmal, and Rajesh Ramesh. All eyes will be on these Indian athletes as they vie for glory on the world stage.
