Playing in front of a supportive home crowd, Sindhu recovered from a one-sided opening game to force a decider, only to fall short in the closing stages. Wang experienced leg cramps during the third game, prompting medical timeouts that disrupted the flow of play.
PV Sindhu questions Wang Zhi’s injury after World Championships exit: ‘Maybe that was her tactic…’
After the match, Sindhu, as she reflected on the setback, shared her doubts on the opponent’s injury. Sindhu, as per a clip shared by PTI, said:
“I don’t know if Wang Zhi Yi had an injury.”
Sindhu added:
“Maybe that was her tactic and her way of playing.”
Speaking further on her game, Sindhu stated that she “should have converted that position into a win.”
Sindhu expressed clear disappointment after months of preparation, after the hard-fought fixture just to lose in the end, and that's what sports is: one wins and the other loses. The result ended India’s singles campaign at the tournament and concluded Sindhu’s previously perfect record against Chinese opponents at the World Championships. Meanwhile, Wang advanced to the quarterfinals.
