Ahead of the Crown Jewel event, Goldberg revealed that he will have a retirement match in 2025. However, he did not provide details about when the match will take place or who his opponent will be.
Goldberg’s announcement came after a heated confrontation with Gunther at the Bad Blood event. While watching from the crowd, Goldberg was targeted by Gunther, who called him a “one trick pony” and joked about hoping Goldberg was a better father than a wrestler. This led to Goldberg jumping the barricade in an attempt to confront Gunther, but he was quickly stopped by security.
This altercation sparked speculation that the two might eventually face off in the ring, though recent reports suggest that their match will not take place at the 2025 Royal Rumble.
Goldberg's final opponent
According to Matt Riddle, it won’t be him. During an interview with Barstool Rasslin’, Riddle was asked about the possibility of facing Goldberg in his retirement match, and he expressed doubt that Goldberg would want to face him.
“I don’t think he wants to step up to the plate,” Riddle said.
Despite past tensions between the two, Riddle emphasized that they’ve worked through their issues.
“Well, me and Bill, we’ve talked. We were actually on a flight from Saudi, we were on a Saudi show, like one of the Crown Jewel events, and we’re flying back. We had some cocktails and had a discussion. I don’t think there’s any bad blood,” Riddle explained.
“I think he has more of an understanding of where I was coming from. I definitely have an understanding of where he’s coming from and why he finds what I say disrespectful and things like that. I completely understand; I don’t mean it that way. We’re professional wrestlers. I’m just spitting facts, and I can back it up. This is just what it is," he added
Goldberg made a surprise return to WWE at the Bad Blood Premium Live Event in October after being absent for more than two years. During the event, he had a tense exchange with Gunther, sparking rumors that he might be preparing for a showdown with the WWE Intercontinental Champion. On November 2, Goldberg officially announced that he plans to retire in 2025, fueling further speculation about who his final opponent will be.
