Boxer Jadumani Singh thrashes Pakistan's Sumama Rehman in CWG 2026, dedicates win to Kargil heroes

India's Mandengbam Jadumani Singh advanced to the men's 55kg boxing quarterfinals at the Commonwealth Games 2026 with a dominant win over Pakistan's Sumama Rehman. In the Round of 16 clash on July 26, Jadumani outclassed the arch-rival Rehman as he won by a unanimous decision of 5-0.

As Jadumani threw punch after punch, bobbed and weaved the arena was filled with chants of 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' and 'India, India'.

The Army boxer read his opponent's game in the opening round. Soon after, he dominated the proceedings. The Pakistani boxer had no answer to Jadumani's sharp hooks and straight punches. At one point in the second round, the referee had to give a standing count to Rehman.

Rehman was desperate in the final round, trying to attack. But, he was met with Jadumani's perfect dodges and counter-attacks.

On the 27th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, he dedicated the win to the heroes. He intends to add to India's medal tally with a gold.

"I want to dedicate this win to Kargil heroes. I want to defeat everyone and get gold for India," he said after the match.

Jadumani will face Zambia's Mwengo Mwale in the next game.

Preeti gets closer to medal -

In the 54kg women's category, India's World Cup 2026 gold medallist, Preeti Pawar defeated Malawi's Deborah Mtenje in the pre-quarterfinals clash. She won via Referee Stop Contest (RSC) decision in the second round.

The referee had to give Deborah two standing counts, one in each round. With 47 seconds to go in the second round, all five judges ruled in Preeti's favour.

Preeti has won a bronze medal in Hangzhou Asian Games as well. She is one win away from assuring India a medal at the Games.

Preeti will go up against Northern Ireland's Nicole Clyde in the quarter-finals.

Pratap bows out

The other boxer in action on July 26, Aditya Pratap had a disappointing outing. In the men's 65kg category opening round, he lost to Uganda's Nuhu Batte. The five judges ruled 3-2 in Batte's favour.
