UFC CEO Dana White made a string of announcements during the post-UFC 252 fight night presser. Among the giveaways, the promotion's boss laid out a title fight rematch that the fans have been demanding for months. To the disappointment of many, it was not related to the desired heavyweight title unification bout between the reigning champion Jon Jones and the Interim title holder Tom Aspinall. Rather, it the announcement was about the UFC Bantamweight title fight between Merab Dvalishvili and Sean O'Malley.

Dana White Announces Merab Dvalishveili vs Sean O'Malley Rematch

It should be noted that Merab Dvalishvili's title reign commenced after beating Sean O'Malley at UFC 306. Dvalishveili completely dominated O'Malley in the contest and ended up picking a unanimous decision win on the judges' scorecard. Despite losing comprehensively, Suga Sean has managed to stay in the title picture by constantly claiming that he deserved a victory that night. Merab however has paid little attention to the claims made by Sean and meanwhile defeated Umar Nurmagomedov to cement his reign as the Bantamweight king.

As O'Malley has recovered from the beating and since the champion also needs a next challenger, it is time for two to meet inside the Octagon again. Talking about the fight Dana White said:

“They want to fight each other,” White told MMA Junkie and other reporters post-fight at UFC Fight Night 252 in Seattle this past weekend.

“I think people want to see it."

Merab Dvalishvili Will Enter as The Favorite

While White has somewhat announced that Merab will next take on Sean, the fight may not happen anytime soon. Since Dvalishvili just fought Nurmagomedov at UFC 311, he will probably take some time out and may return later in the year. However, whenever he will return, the opponent is already decided.

As Sean O'Malley was completely dominated by Merab in every aspect of the fight in their previous meeting, it will be intriguing to see what the former champion will bring to the table this time.
