Once indomitable as the reigning king of the UFC middleweight division, things have gone southwards for Israel Adesanya in the recent past. The Last Stylebender is on a 3-fight losing skid and as per key observers of the game, he has never looked the same since incurring the defeat against Alex Pereira at UFC 281. Surely, he bounced back with arguably one of the greatest wins inside the Octagon at UFC 287, when he knocked Pereira out cold to reclaim the title, but something has been off about him ever since the first battle with long-term rival Pereira.

Israel Adesanya Receives Advice From Former Rival

A former opponent of Israel Adesanya has paid heed to his situation and highlighted where it all went wrong for him. A former foe of Adesanya’s, Yoel Romero believes Adesanya made a mistake in returning to the Octagon so soon following his losses.

“Israel, he needed time,” Romero said of Adesanya’s losing skid. “He needed rest a little bit. That’s what I think. He needs to rest a little bit because too much damage.

“But the problem is the UFC no give you time. When the UFC call you, you need to come because you have a contract…”

Romera laid out advice for Adesanya which could help him get past the tough phase.

‘The Soldier of God’ advised Adesanya, a 35-year-old veteran in his own right, to treat training like ‘therapy’ as he attempts to return to the fighter he once was.

“Now he needs to think about training not too hard in the sparring. He need to go to training, like therapy, recover for the body. He doesn’t need it now– too much sparring. In my opinion for Israel, he wants [to get] back again, he need recover to [his] body.”

Israel Adesanya has fought 29 times in his MMA career. He was undefeated till the 20 fights but has picked up five losses since then. He is still regarded as a prized fighter worthy of headlining a PPV fight card, but at this point, it is anybody's guess regarding what the future holds for him.
