On September 13 in Liverpool, England, 24-year-old Jaismine Lamboria won the gold medal at the World Boxing Championships 2025. In the 57kg category, Lamboria beat Poland's Julia Szeremeta to win the final. She defeated the Paris Olympics 2025 silver medallist via a 4-1 split decision.
Jaismine did not get off to a good start on the first round but held her nerves to stage a comeback and get the better of the Polish boxer. It is a huge turnaround for Jaismine who faced an early exit in the last year's Olympics.
"This feeling can't be expressed, I'm so happy to be a world champion. After my early exit at Paris 2024, I went away and improved my technique physically and mentally. This is the result of consistent work for a year," the young Indian boxer told Olympics.com after winning the gold medal.
Boxing runs in Jaismine’s veins
Jaismine belongs to a family of boxers. Her great grandfather was a heavyweight boxer who bagged two gold medals at the Asian Games. Her grandfather, Hon. Captain Chander Bhan Lamboria, was a wrestler. She learned boxing from her uncles Sandeep Singh and Parvinder Singh. Both Sandeep and Parvinder were national champions in boxing.
