Olympic medallist and boxing icon Mary Kom confirmed that she got divorced from her husband Karung Onkholer, popularly known as Onler, by mutual consent, on December 20, 2023, in the presence of both family members. 

Mary Kom also lashed out at media outlets spreading fake news about her relationship involvement with Hitesh Choudhary or being in a relationship with another boxer's husband.

Mary Kom took her 'X', formerly known as Twitter, to share a legal notice where the Indian pugilist issued clarification over the fake news spreading in her name. Here's the post. 

"This notice is issued under the instructions of my client, Ms. M.C. Mary Kom, in response to the Article published in the Hindustan Times EFL, on April 7, 2025 and subsequently engaging various media outlets in unwarranted speculation and unfounded claims regarding the personal life of Ms. M.C.

Mary Kom.

Specifically, the following matters are addressed:

1. Speculations regarding her divorce and separation from her husband, Mr. Onkholer (Onler) Kom, along with related news about him and his current state of affairs.

2. Claims suggesting that she is currently dating Mr. Hitesh Choudhary, who is identified as a business partner and chairman of the Ms. Mary Kom Boxing Foundation.

In the light of these speculative and incorrect media reports, I wish to issue the following clarifications, as instructed by my client, Ms. M C Mary Kom:

1. Ms. M.C. Mary Kom and Mr. Onkholer (Onler) Kom are no longer married and they have finalized their divorce by mutual consent under KOM CUSTOMARY LAW on December 20 2023, in the presence of both family members and leaders of the clan as the adjudicating authorities.

As for the details of their past marriage, my client states that aforesaid speculations, assertions are denied being wrong and incorrect. Any further than this, my client does not wish to state or comment, as this is a matter of the past. She has since moved on with her life positively, in accordance with the mutual agreement signed thereof.

3. The rumours regarding my client's relationship involvement with Mr. Hitesh Choudhary or being in a relationship with another boxer's husband, are categorically denied and should not be propagated by any media platform.

4. It is further stated that Mr. Hitesh Choudhary is working with my client, Mary Kom strictly under business collaboration relationship and any & all speculations beyond it, are specifically denied.

Over the past two years, my client has been going through a deeply challenging time in her personal life, especially with her ex-husband. During this difficult hour, my client requests her friends, fans, and well-wishers to kindly give her the space and privacy she needs to navigate this difficult time.

This notice serves as a formal request for all media entities, in all forms, to refrain from making baseless speculations about my client. It is imperative that the media respects Mary Kom's privacy and personal space. One press conference at Manipur has already been done to this effect.

Failure to comply with these requests will prompt legal action against those who violate this notice, including but not limited to claims of defamation both civil and criminal and breaches of privacy rights as per applicable laws" written in the social media post shared by Mary Kom
