India's medal tally has taken a serious hit two years prior to the Commonwealth Games 2026. There will be only 10 sporting events in the Glasgow Games as cricket, hockey, wrestling, badminton and table tennis and a few other sports have been dropped from the roster.
“The sports programme will include Athletics and Para Athletics (Track & Field), Swimming and Para Swimming, Artistic Gymnastics, Track Cycling and Para Track Cycling, Netball, Weightlifting and Para Powerlifting, Boxing, Judo, Bowls and Para Bowls, and 3×3 Basketball and 3×3 Wheelchair Basketball,” the Commonwealth Games Federation said in a statement.
“The Games will take place across four venues — Scotstoun Stadium, Tollcross International Swimming Centre, Emirates Arena – including the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, and the Scottish Event Campus (SEC). Athletes and support staff will be housed in hotel accommodation,” it added.
Glasgow is hosting the Commonwealth Games after a gap of 12 years. In total, nine events have been dropped from the previous edition of the games.
In the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022, India finished fourth with 61 medals (22 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze).
