The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has received another complaint, this time from the sport of sailing. A female sailor who is currently in a foreign exposure camp in Germany mentioned in her complaint that a coach who was accompanying the contingent made her feel uncomfortable.
"SAI has received a complaint from a female sailor who is currently in a foreign exposure camp in Germany. The camp has been proposed and organised by the Yachting Association of India and funded by SAI through ACTC, as is the norm. In her complaint, the athlete has said that a coach accompanying the contingent is making her uncomfortable. The coach in question has been appointed by the federation and was included in the contingent as per the proposal of the Federation," the official statement said.
The sailor has claimed that she had filed complaints against the same coach to the Yachting Association of India. In relation to this, SAI has also asked the federation for a report on the same, "On receipt of the complaint SAI has asked for a report from the federation seeking clarification on when and how many times the athlete had complained to the federation and why no response was extended to her. SAI has sought this report from the Federation by the end of the day today."
SAI has also reached out to the athlete in question, who cited 'mental pressure' as the reason behind her complaint, and not sexual harassment, "SAI has reached out to the athlete and she has said that "mental pressure" is created by the coach in question during training, but did not sight any sexual harassment issues."
Earlier, a cyclist had also complained against her coach for 'inappropriate behaviour' by her coach RK Sharma. They then formed an inquiry committee which terminated the contract of Sharma, who is also the chief cycling coach, acting on a preliminary report. SAI said the committee will continue a detailed investigation into the case and submit a final report. The complainant was part of the Indian endurance contingent, consisting of five male and a female, that flew to Slovenia on May 15 and was scheduled to return on June 14.
