Jack Draper was battling his issue this year but he looked in fine touch at the finals of the BNP Paribas Open. Draper was in magnificent form as he zipped around the court and ended up firing 21 winners against Rune to cap off a superb week in the California desert.

I lost first round here last year so I didn't get to experience the tournament too much. I would say this is one of my favorite tournaments now, Draper said.

Holger Rune was featuring in his fourth Masters 1000 final as compared to the first of Draper. He even had the experience on his side but the Denmark bound player was not able to find his rhythm as he registered only seven winners and had 18 unforced errors.

Draper thrashed Rune in the first set as the former recorded seven aces and even hit a forehand winner to break in the first game. Not just this, Draper even outclassed Rune at the net in the third to go up another break.

The frustration was boiling up for Rune as in the second set, he shouted towards his team before dropping serve in the first game. He even handed Draper another break in the penultimate game with a backhand shot that was not hit perfectly as it went wide. It was the 14th seeded Draper who saw the opportunity to hit a forehand shot across the net to clinch his first title.

After winning the finals at the Indian Wells, Draper smiled towards the crowd before kneeling down on the court and having his fists thrust into the air as he celebrated his victory.

It never feels nice not to be able to step over the line, but that's life sometimes, Rune said after the loss.

On his way to reaching the finals of the Indian Wells, Draper managed to beat 2022 winner Taylor Fritz in the round of 16 and then handed defeated to the two-time defending champion, Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals. Jack Draper becomes the first Britain since Cameron Norrie in 2021 to win the title and is expected to see a rise in his ATP Rankings as well. After winning the prestigious title, Draper would now see himself seventh in the rankings.

I have put in a lot of work over time and I'm so grateful to be out here, with my body healthy and feeling great in the mind, Draper, who lost in last month's Doha final, told Sky Sports. It feels like it is all coming together on the big stage.
