Highlights:

Despite her impressive winning streak this season, Gauff faced a surprising exit at the Australian Open 2025.

After a strong start to the tournament, she was eliminated in the quarterfinals by World No. 12 Paula Badosa in straight sets.

Coco Gauff has been in phenomenal form, dominating the WTA circuit in recent months. The 20-year-old American sensation ended 2024 on a high, securing titles at the WTA Finals in Riyadh and the WTA 1000 in Beijing. She carried that momentum into 2025, leading Team USA to United Cup glory with an undefeated singles run, including a statement win over World No. 2 Iga Swiatek.

Despite this impressive streak, Gauff faced a surprising exit at the Australian Open 2025. After a strong start to the tournament, she was eliminated in the quarterfinals by World No. 12 Paula Badosa in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. Following her exit from the tournament, the 20-year-old American standout shared her reaction for the first time; follow along to find out what she had to say.

A setback amid for Coco Gauff a stellar season

Gauff’s journey at the Australian Open was remarkable until her encounter with Badosa. She entered the match undefeated this season, having not dropped a set until the fourth round, where she overcame Belinda Bencic in a gritty three-set battle. Against Badosa, Coco Gauff narrowly lost the first set and struggled to find her rhythm in the second due to a series of unforced errors.

Reflecting on her loss, Gauff shared her thoughts: "I have to be aggressive. I feel like that’s when I’m playing my best. That’s how I won most of the matches so far the last few months is by playing aggressive. I think it’s just being more comfortable with that."

Despite the disappointment, Gauff remains optimistic about her game, emphasizing her progress since adding coach Matt Daley to her team.

"US Open I needed to work on my serve. Not saying that my serve is where I want it to be, but I worked on it. Obviously a big improvement. So I want to continue working on that, continue working on playing aggressive margin."

Looking ahead

Gauff is now focused on upcoming tournaments in the Middle East, including the Qatar Total Open and Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships in February.

Remaining positive, she remarked: "I feel like I’m on the right path. I’m not crushed. Even though I lost today, I feel like I’m in an upward trajectory."

As Gauff continues to refine her game, fans eagerly anticipate what’s next for this rising star in the 2025 season.
