Emma Raducanu ends 2025 tennis season due to illness

Raducanu had to prematurely end her season following two bouts of illness when she was forced to call for a medical timeout during her clash at the Ningbo Open in China on Tuesday. Her plans to play in the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo next week, followed by an event at the Hong Kong Open in the last week of October, have been called off.

As per a report by  PA news agency, Raducanu has not been feeling well over the last 10 days and will rather rest her body further. She is expected to make a return to the UK for an end-of-season break and as of now, the player will be focusing on her fitness and recovery.

The 2021 US Open champion appeared to suffer against Zhu Lin in the opener of the Ningbo as she began to falter in the second set where she was defeated 4-6. The sensational star had to take physio’s help while she was losing 3-4 and her blood pressure test was analyzed. She was then handed something to consume to help her recover from the struggles.

Raducanu also suffered with her back as she stretched it out at the beginning of the play before she called for physio to help her. The Briton needed on-court attention twice before losing in three sets. Her past two matches on the WTA Tour have been blighted by sickness.

The British professional had to retire in the Wuhan Open in the first-round clash against Ann Li last week where the 22-year-old seemingly struggled with illness amid the 32-degree temperatures in the country.
