The Polish star discusses how technical adjustments have brought consistency and new confidence to her game.

Iga Swiatek’s 2025 season has been one of reinvention and refinement — and much of that, according to the Polish superstar, comes down to the influence of her new coach, Wim Fissette. The World No. 2 opened up about the technical and mental improvements she’s made this year, particularly highlighting her progress on faster surfaces and her newly found power behind the serve.

A new era of technical precision

Under Fissette’s guidance, Swiatek has shown greater adaptability across all court conditions, addressing one of the few areas that had previously challenged her. Speaking about the changes in her game, she noted how her ability to handle quicker exchanges has evolved.

“I think, technically for sure, the way I played on faster surfaces, the way I handled sometimes faster balls that were an issue for me in previous seasons. That was something that I felt improved totally,” Swiatek said during her media interaction ahead of the WTA Finals.

Fissette’s structured coaching style has clearly helped Iga Swiatek transition into a more aggressive yet controlled player — a vital shift that’s reflected in her consistency across hard and grass courts this season.

A serving breakthrough

Another major leap Swiatek credits to her collaboration with Fissette is her serve — a weapon that has become increasingly dominant in her matches. Known more for her baseline precision and tactical play, Swiatek revealed that serving has now become one of her biggest strengths.

“Also, the speed of the serve. I don't know. I think I was in some kind of ranking, a fifth or something, in aces this year. That's impossible. But my serve improved,” she said with a laugh. “Now, at least I know that I can serve those speeds and serve a lot of aces as well and get some free points.”

Iga Swiatek’s focus moving forward is on maintaining consistency, but her remarks reflect a newfound confidence in her evolving game — a combination of power, control, and maturity.

As Swiatek competes at the 2025 WTA Finals in Riyadh, her transformation under Fissette’s mentorship stands as one of the defining stories of her season. Her growth as a player — from mastering faster courts to turning her serve into a weapon — signals that the Polish star is far from done rewriting her legacy.
