Jannik Sinner just can't stop making history, and it has now become routine at every ATP 1000 event. The World No. 1 player defeated Casper Ruud in the final of the 2026 Italian Open on Sunday. The Italian not only won the title and the prize money but also made history, joining tennis legend Novak Djokovic.

Sinner became the first Italian man to win the Rome Masters title in 50 years and the second player ever to complete the Career Golden Masters. The 24-year-old Italian triumphed on home soil at the Foro Italico, ending a long national drought since Adriano Panatta’s 1976 victory.

By lifting the trophy, Sinner joined Djokovic as the only players to win all nine ATP Masters 1000 events, achieving the feat seven years younger than the Serb, who completed it at age 31 in 2018. Sinner’s victory extended his remarkable streak of consecutive Masters 1000 wins and marked his sixth straight title in the series.

The win caps a dominant clay-court swing for the top-ranked player, who has shown few signs of vulnerability this season. Ruud, a multiple-time French Open finalist, pushed Sinner in the final but could not overcome the Italian’s consistency and crowd support in front of a passionate home audience. Sinner’s achievement underscores his rapid rise to dominance in men’s tennis and positions him as a strong favorite heading into the French Open.
