In what could be defined as a first challenging game since returning from suspension, World No.1 Jannik Sinner survived the challenge posed by American opponent Tommy Paul in the semi-final of the Italian Open on Friday. Sinner had no answer to Paul, who rattled him 1-6 in the first set, but the Italian showcased persistence and stormed back into the match to win the following two sets, 6-0, 6-3, to emerge victorious. With the win, Sinner has booked a place in the final against Carlos Alcaraz.

Jannik Sinner On Working His Way to Win the Semifinal

Following the culmination of the match, Jannik Sinner expressed his thoughts on the contest. Sinner said that he remained composed despite taking the first set beating, which he defined was like a "punch in my face". He also mentioned that the conditions were a bit different this time, which affected his game.

"I just tried to stay there mentally. Today the conditions were completely different. It's colder, the ball is heavier, I struggled with that a bit and he broke me straight away, which was a punch in my face but I tried to stay there mentally."

Aiming to Play Best Tennis

Sinner highlighted the importance of winning and made it known that he wants to play his best tennis and defeat Alcaraz on Sunday to win the title on his return.

"Winning this one game for me was important, tennis can change quickly. Today I showed every moment is crucial and I'm very happy about that, and to be here in the final. If I want to win on Sunday, I have to play my best tennis. Incredible to be here in the final."

The win over Tommy Paul was his 26th consecutive victory. Will he be able to extend it to 27 on Sunday?
