Good news for the tennis fams as Roger Federer is set to make a highly anticipated return to New York this week. No, he is not making a retirement U-turn but will definitely grace the tennis court for a match.

The Swiss legend will appear in a one-night exhibition event at the last Grand Slam of the year. Federer, a five-time consecutive US Open champion between 2004 and 2008, will compete on Tuesday 25 August in Arthur Ashe Stadium as part of Fan Week. The event, billed “Roger Federer: An Icon Returns to New York,” marks his first appearance at the tournament since 2019.

Federer will first face longtime rival and 2003 US Open champion Andy Roddick in a one-set singles match using no-ad scoring. He will then partner with four-time US Open winner John McEnroe in doubles against Roddick and fellow US Open champion Andre Agassi, again over a single set with no-ad scoring.
Federer has spoken warmly of his connection to the tournament, describing the US Open as one of the most special events of his career and expressing excitement at sharing the court again with Roddick, Agassi and McEnroe.
The exhibition forms a centrepiece of Fan Week activities ahead of the main draw, which begins on 30 August. It offers spectators a rare chance to see four tennis icons together on the same court in a nostalgic celebration of the sport’s recent history.
