Sumit Nagal's journey at the Monte Carlo Masters came to an end as he went down to World No. 7 Holger Rune in the men’s singles second-round match on April 11. Nagal slipped to a 3-6, 6-3, 2-6 loss after battling hard for two hours and 11 minutes in the prestigious clay court event. Star Indian player Sumit Nagal was on the back foot in his second-round singles match against Denmark's Holger Rune when the match was interrupted due to rain. Unseeded Nagal lost the first set 3-6 and was trailing seventh-seeded Holger Rune 2-1 before the rain. Rune dominated the game until the weather interrupted it.

I didn't like the way I finished the match: Sumit Nagal
“Obviously I didn't like the way I finished the match. I think I could have done better, so better. And a few minor errors that changed the score so much. But other than that, if you look at the tournament overall, happy with the way I played the first three rounds and the last match, you're a little bit up and down. Other than that, you're very, very happy with it,” Sumit Nagal said in a post-match presentation”.
Nagal shocks Matteo Arnaldi in 1st round
In the first round of the main draw, Nagal shocked Italy's Matteo Arnaldi with 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. With his win, Nagal became the first Indian to win a Monte Carlo Masters main draw match, defeating world No. 38 Arnaldi of Italy. Nagal's performance also marked the first victory by an Indian athlete in the main draw of three clay events in the Masters 1000, a series that began in 1990. Currently at a career-high No. 93 in the ATP Rankings, Nagal has joined the elite list of Vijay Amritraj (in 1977) and Ramesh Krishnan (in 1982) as the third Indian to compete in the main draw in Monaco.
Rohan Bopanna-Matthew Ebden suffers defeat
India's Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden faced defeat in their round of 16 men's doubles match at the Monte Carlo Masters on April 10. They were defeated by Mate Pavic of Croatia and Marcelo Arévalo of El Salvador with a score of 3-6, 6-7 (6-8). Bopanna and Ebden struggled to find their rhythm early in the match as he fell behind quickly in the first set and failed to mount a successful comeback.
