Djokovic confronts chair umpire over crowd hostility during intense quarterfinal clash with Fritz.

The Serb advances to face Alcaraz in a blockbuster semifinal after a 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 victory.

Novak Djokovic faced a hostile crowd at the 2025 US Open when clashing against home favorite Taylor Fritz in an amazing quarterfinal game. The Serbian player expressed his frustration with the crowd by angrily confronting the chair umpire during the match.

Djokovic looked set to continue his winning record against Fritz after winning the first two sets and taking a 2-0 lead in the match. However, as the audience began to rally behind Taylor Fritz with passion, the 24-time Grand Slam champion found himself impacted by the noise.

With Taylor Fritz leading 2-1 in the third set, Novak Djokovic looked very frustrated as the audience cheered loudly for his double fault, which gave the American a key breakpoint opportunity. Novak Djokovic did not receive the crowd's response as he went up to the chair umpire and slammed him for his handling of the situation. However, the umpire pointed out that he had asked the spectators to "stop shouting" between serves.

"What are you gonna do? What are you gonna do? Just 'thank you, please'" the Serb said.

"I just said when both players are ready, stop shouting. I just said it. It's not going to help Novak," the umpire responded.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion had also expressed his annoyance with the crowd earlier in the game, as he sarcastically blew kisses to spectators after winning the second set.

Surprisingly, Taylor Fritz managed to break Novak Djokovic's serve during the game and went to secure the third set to stay alive in the tournament. However, the Serb made a crazy comeback in the fourth set and claimed a 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 win to reach the semifinals and continue his quest to clinch his 25th Grand Slam title.

Novak Djokovic to play against Carlos Alcaraz in US Open semifinal

After defeating Taylor Fritz, Novak Djokovic will face Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals of the 2025 US Open. Alcaraz sealed a strong 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 win against Jiri Lehecka to book his spot in the last four and set up the highly anticipated encounter.

Djokovic will go into the clash with an advantage, as he enjoys a 5-3 lead in his head-to-head record against the Spanish player. The Serb also defeated Alcarac 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 in their recent clash at this year's Australian Open.

If Novak Djokovic defeats Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinal match, then he could come up against defending champion Jannik Sinner in the title clash. Sinner is set to face Lorenzo Musetti in the quarterfinals of the event.
