Novak Djokovic’s unique way of celebration is well known to the tennis world. The Serbian superstar rallied from a set down to defeat Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 5-7, 7-5, 6-1, 6-4 on Sunday in the first round of the 2026 French Open, extending his perfect 22-0 record in opening matches at Roland Garros.

After the match, Djokovic treated the crowd to a light-hearted dance celebration, showcasing his enduring charisma and joy for the game despite his age.

The 39-year-old Serb, a three-time champion in Paris and seeded third, endured a tough test from the big-serving home player on Court Philippe-Chatrier during the night session.

Mpetshi Perricard claimed the opening set and pushed Djokovic hard early on with powerful serves and aggressive play. However, the 24-time Grand Slam champion steadied himself, breaking back to level the match and then dominating the final two sets as his opponent's resistance faded.

The victory, lasting two hours and 47 minutes, keeps alive Djokovic's bid for a record-extending 25th major title and a fourth Roland Garros crown. The 24-time Grand Slam champion will now prepare for the second round as he continues his campaign on the clay of Paris.
