Kazakhstan’s Rybakina advanced after a hard-fought comeback victory over Liudmila Samsonova, recovering from 0-3 and two breaks down in the final set to win 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. On the other hand, Japan’s Osaka, ranked No. 13, continued her strong run by defeating home favourite Leylah Fernandez 6-4, 6-4.
Both players are known for their aggressive baseline games and heavy hitting. Rybakina, a former Wimbledon champion, has established herself among the elite with consistent power and improved consistency.
Osaka, a former world No. 1, has shown encouraging form in Toronto as she builds momentum. Tennis fans have highlighted the novelty of the matchup, noting that the pair have never previously crossed paths on the WTA Tour.
