World no.2 Novak Djokovic defeated 15th seeded Holger Rune 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in three straight sets to advance to the quarter-final of Wimbledon. He was discontented with Wimbledon fans and slammed their behaviour in the post-match interview to TV presenter Rishi Persad.

His critical attack at a section of Centre Court fans was after the chants of “Rune” were taken as boo by the Serb.

The reason behind his reaction

Rune’s supporters at various tournaments gather in huge numbers to support him. They cheer him by stretching out his last name saying “Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuune!” which sounds similar to “Boooooooooooooo!”

“To all the fans that have respect and stayed here tonight: thank you very much from the bottom of my heart. I appreciate it,” the 37-year-old said.

While slamming the fans he said, “And to all those players that have chosen to disrespect the player, in this case, me -have a gooooood night. Gooooood night, Gooooood night, Very gooooood night”.
