Heartbreaking scenes as Luka Doncic was down on the court with a left hamstring injury and exited the game during the Los Angeles Lakers’ 96-139 loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Slovenian was ruled out and underwent an MRI on Friday to determine the extent of the injury.

Big blow for Lakers as Luka Doncic out indefinitely following left hamstring injury

The Lakers had just qualified for the NBA Playoffs, all thanks to Doncic, but the franchise is set to miss him for the entire regular season after the scan on Friday. JJ Redick’s side has not provided any timeline for his return.

Shams Charania on his official media account stated:

"Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic is out indefinitely due to a left hamstring injury, sources tell me and @mcten. He will miss the remainder of the regular season, and his status is uncertain beyond that.”

Doncic, the former Dallas Mavericks star, is the leading scorer in the league this season with 2143 points for an unequalled average of 33.5 points per game. The player had also missed four games earlier due to a hamstring strain and did not appear for two games to return to Slovenia for the birth of his daughter in December.

Doncic is falling short of the minimum games threshold required to qualify for the NBA's major end-of-season awards. However, the former Real Madrid basketball star will apply for an "Extraordinary Circumstances Challenge", according to his agent Bill Duffy.
