The Los Angeles Lakers’ fans might not be impressed with this news but it is what it is. Luka Doncic has revealed the team where he would like to end his basketball career with and it's not with the 17-time NBA Champions.

Lakers’ new addition, Doncic, has stated that he would consider returning to the Real Madrid basketball team and that is the franchise where he would like to retire. In a recent interview with Jason Gay of The Wall Street Journal, the Slovenian revealed that he hung up his boots in Madrid and said: 

“To play with Real Madrid, you have to be so good.”

 Doncic further, about ending his career with the Spanish powerhouse:

“For sure. They raised me.”

Doncic’s blockbuster trade shocked the sporting fraternity and not just the NBA community when he was traded mid-season from the Dallas Mavericks. The 26-year-old was traded unexpectedly for Anthony Davis in a three-team deal facilitated by the Utah Jazz.

Doncic was already a star at Real Madrid and known for his amazing skills before he became a household name in the NBA. Simply put, in his own words, the EuroLeague side raised him as he joined their youth academy when he was just 23 and made his senior debut at 16. The player has attained an emotional affection for the team which is understandable. 

Meanwhile, keeping the retirement plans aside since he still has a lot of time left, Doncic is gearing up for his first full season with the Lakers. The player has already bought a new house in Los Angeles, which previously belonged to tennis star Maria Sharapova; the point guard has finally cemented himself in LA.

JJ Redick’s side made some important moves to strengthen their squad, and Doncic is expected to play alongside Austin Reaves, LeBron James, Rui Hachimura, and DeAndre Ayton in the upcoming season. The franchise is  set to play the Golden State Warriors in the home opener on October 6.
