Sophie Cunningham might not have played Game 3 against the Atlanta Dream but the Indiana Fever star managed to end up in the spotlight. The 29-year-old was confronted by the police and the video has been going viral ever since.
Fever star Sophie Cunningham gets confronted by police during Fever’s Game 3 against Dream
The Fever shockingly defeated the Dream with a score of 87-85 on Thursday in Game 3. Following the victory, Indiana players held up a “W” symbol with their hands, along with Caitlyn Clark and Sophie, as they walked away from the Gateway Center court. Meanwhile, the former Missouri Tigers player instead ended up standing near the midcourt. As she continued to stand there, a police officer came up to her and told her to back off.
Clark was also nearby her as Odyssey Sims remained on the court after drawing a foul previously in the game. Clark and Cunningham, both the stars of the Fever, are sidelined for the remainder of the season following injury. While the former Iowa Hawkeyes star has been ruled out due to a groin injury, Cunningham is recovering from a right knee injury.

However, Clark, who has not played since mid-July has managed to cheer for the team from the sidelines. In her absence, Kelsey Mitchell led all scorers for the third consecutive game and recorded 24 points. The 29-year-old basketball guard, who was named an All-Star for the third straight season, has been averaging more than 20 points for the first time in her career.
The Fever, who went through a difficult season, were not expected to make it to the playoffs and win the last two elimination games. Despite the injuries, the team made it to the most successful season in a decade. Stephanie White’s side has now advanced past the WNBA Playoffs’ first round for the first time since 2015.
White had previously coached the franchise in 2015 and 2016, which was also the last time the Eastern Conference side made it to the playoffs.
