Delhi Capitals announce Mitchell Marsh's replacement; Afghan all-rounder with 1,626 runs, 70 wickets in T20s to join Rishabh Pant's side

Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out due to a hamstring injury.

Delhi Capitals (DC) have signed Afghan all-rounder Gulbadin Naib as injured Mitchell Marsh's replacement for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Naib will be making his maiden appearance in the IPL. He has been roped in for his base price of Rs 50 lakh. 
 

Marsh was ruled out of IPL 2024 after he flew back home due to a hamstring injury. Marsh played four games in the ongoing season and scored just 61 runs and picked up one wicket. Marsh who is all set to lead Australia in T20 World Cup 2024 is undergoing rehab in Australia.
 

Naib’s T20 numbers

Former Afghanistan captain Naib has played 1,626 runs at an average of 21.39 including seven half-centuries. With the ball, he has 70 wickets. His economy rate is 8.23 runs per over.
 

List of players injured and their replacements

Marsh is the third overseas player for DC to get ruled out of IPL 2024. Harry Brook pulled out of the tournament before the season. Lungi Ngidi was ruled out due to injury and didn’t play a single game. Australia’s Jake Fraser-McGurk and Lizaad Williams were named as their replacement. Williams is yet to make his IPL debut whereas Fraser-McGurk has hit two half-centuries already.

Nortje’s poor form to make way for IPL debutant?

Nortje has not been in good form. He has taken seven wickets from six games but has leaked boundaries. Either Williams or Naib may make their IPL debut in the upcoming games. 
 

Rishabh Pant-led DC are currently in the sixth place with four wins from nine games. They beat Gujarat Titans (GT) by four runs in a last-ball thriller. DC will go up against Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 27 at home.
