Later this year, Team India will cross swords against Australia in the blockbuster Border-Gavaskar Trophy and it will be the first time this series will have five test matches since its start in 1992. According to a report in The Age, Perth is set to host the first test match of the blockbuster series while Adelaide will host the second match which is most likely to be a Day/Night game. Brisbane will be hosting the third match while the fourth and fifth Tests will be in Melbourne and Sydney respectively.
"The schedule is yet to be finalised," a Cricket Australia spokesperson told The Age.
This is the first time Perth will be hosting the first test match of the Australian Summer. Traditionally, Brisbane and Adelaide have been hosting the first test of the Australian summer.
Australia would want to take revenge
Since the last two times when India have played Down Under, they have won both the series, first in 2018-19 and then in 2020-21. In 2020, after 36 all out, the Indian team made their comeback into the series and won the next two tests out of three. By winning the last test match at the Gabba, India breached Australia's fortress. For the first time in 32 years, Australia had lost a Test match at the Gabba.
Australia are the defending WTC winners
Last year, Australia defeated India in the WTC Final. The Australian team completely dominated in the final match against India. Currently, in the WTC points table, India is at the top followed by Australia. Looking at the WTC final next year this series is going to be important for both the teams.
