Virat Kohli smashed his bat and threw his gloves in frustration.

Kohli had a heated conversation with umpires before walking off the field.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) engaged in a last-ball thriller at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. However, the big talking point from the game was Virat Kohli’s dismissal. In the run chase of 223, Kohli looked in fine touch before a slower high full-toss from Harshit Rana got the better of him. Kohli reviewed as he felt it was a no-ball but the point of impact was not taken into consideration. Instead, ball tracking technology was used to see the point of impact which could have been had he stayed and the crease and Kohli was given out. Kohli was left fuming at umpires as he recluctantly left the field. Kohli’s former RCB teammate AB de Villiers came in support of him as he said that it is not tough to fix this.

“Grey areas in the game open up room for anger and confusion. It’s not a tough fix this. Get the batter’s stance, draw the lines and use ball tracking. No confusion whatsoever,” De Villiers wrote on his X account.

ABD advocates better use of technology

Earlier, De Villiers posted about the wide ruling and advocated the use of technology to fix it. Later, he wrote a clarification that he was not being criticial of umpires but wants it to be effective.

“For goodness sake, PLEASE just clarify the wide ruling in Cricket! Really not so difficult.. We have technology, let’s use it properly. No need for thumb-sucking surely,” he wrote.

“Forgot to clarify this in 360 live today. It’s got nothing to do with bad umpiring, rather common sense to use technology in a game already improved by it. Like the offside rule in football, draw lines and simplify the decision for wides(height, offside and leg-side). Line to be drawn as the batter enters the crease for height. If batter moves across the wide line obviously moves, but measure it and draw a line, don’t let the 3rd umpire have to thumb-suck the decision. Simple and effective,” the former South African captain added.

Du Plessis douses the flames

After the match, RCB captain Faf du Plessis did not try to extend the already controversial debate in the post-match presentation.

“It was crazy, rules are rules, Virat and myself thought that the ball was higher than the waist, I guess they measured from the popping crease, one team thinks it's high, the other doesn't,” Du Plessis said.
