On March 19 (Tuesday) afternoon, Mumbai Indians' best batter Suryakumar Yadav sent social media into overdrive when he shared a cryptic emoji on his Instagram status. Suryakumar Yadav posted a 'heartbreak' emoji on his Instagram status, which kick-started a flurry of speculations among fans.
Social media was filled with fans speculating that Suryakumar might miss a considerable number of matches in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) if not the entire tournament altogether.
Suryakumar Yadav injury update
Mumbai Indians head coach Mark Boucher gave an update on Suryakumar Yadav's fitness on March 18 during a press conference. Boucher confirmed that the No.1 ranked T20 batter in the world is not yet been cleared by the BCCI to participate in the IPL.
"We are awaiting updates on Suryakumar from the BCCI. We have always been under a cloud of fitness issues but we have a world-class medical team. We may lose one or two (players) in terms of fitness but we have to move on as is sport," Boucher said.
Suryakumar to miss matches
Suryakumar hasn't played professional cricket in more than three months. In December last year, the explosive batter suffered an injury and has since been sidelined. Earlier in the year, Suryakumar underwent surgery for a sports hernia and is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
Recently, Suryakumar on his Instagram shared a reel where he was seen doing a workout at NCA with the caption, “Kaam chalu hai doston, Milte hai jaldi."
A report in the PTI earlier claimed that Suryakumar is set to miss at least a couple of matches for the Mumbai Indians in the beginning of the IPL season.
"Surya's rehabilitation is on track and he will certainly 'Return to Play' in the IPL itself. However it is still not clear whether the NCA's Sports Science and Medical Team will give clearance to play in the first two away games against Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad (March 27)," PTI had quoted a BCCI source as saying.
No official information has been communicated by the BCCI about the progress of Suryakumar Yadav. An official word from either the BCCI or the Mumbai Indians franchise is still awaited.
