Former Mumbai Indians (MI) captain and the franchise's poster boy, Rohit Sharma is set to join the team's training camp at the Wankhede Stadium for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Sports Tak has learned that Rohit is slated to join the MI training camp on March 18 (Monday) to begin his preparation for the 17th edition of the cash-rich tournament. The source also revealed the reason behind Rohit not joining the training camp earlier was his time national time.

"Rohit Sharma will join Mumbai Indians camp from today (March 18)," a source told the Sports Tak.

"Since Rohit was on national duty for a long time, he took a break but will most likely join the camp from today," the source added.

Rohit Sharma to play under Hardik Pandya's captaincy

In IPL 2024, Rohit Sharma will represent the Mumbai Indians as a pure batter as he was removed from captaincy. The franchise secured the transfer of Hardik Pandya from the Gujarat Titans and made him the captain of the team.

The decision came as a big surprise and stirred huge debate among the fans and pundits once Mumbai Indians announced their decision to give the captaincy to Hardik Pandya. Rohit led the franchise to five IPL titles during his time as the captain.

Two days after India's home Test series against England concluded, Rohit went to the Wankhede Stadium to attend the Ranji Trophy final match between Mumbai and Vidarbha. The Indian captain was seen sitting inside Mumbai's dressing room and keeping a close eye on the match.

Rohit led Team India to a comeback win in the Test series against the Three Lions. After losing the first of five Test matches, India roared back to win four matches on the trot and clinched the series by a convincing margin of 4-1.
