Arshdeep Singh is set to be rested for India vs Afghanistan third ODI

The third ODI between India and Afghanistan will be played on June 20

With India already securing an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, the team management is highly anticipated to experiment with their lineup for the final fixture, which is scheduled to be played on June 20 in Chennai. Speaking at a pre-match press conference in Chennai, India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate dropped several hints regarding the potential playing eleven as the hosts prepare to face Afghanistan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Arshdeep Singh to be rested for IND vs AFG 3rd ODI

Among the expected changes, ace pacer Arshdeep Singh, who delivered a strong three-wicket performance in the previous game in Lucknow, might be rested for the dead rubber. Doeschate stated that  the team will be making a few changes from the last two games, noting that Arshdeep Singh may be rested and that one of the batters could also sit out.

Should the team opt to bench Arshdeep while maintaining a three-pronged fast-bowling attack, Prasidh Krishna is poised to return to the squad. This would see him partner with newcomers Prince Yadav and Gurnoor Brar, both of whom are expected to retain their spots in the lineup to gain more international exposure.

Yashasvi Jaiswal to be given longer rope

The former Netherlands international also gave clarity on the top order, indicating that young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is likely to be backed despite a cheap dismissal for just four runs in the last match. With the management looking ahead to India's upcoming tour of the UK, keeping Jaiswal at the top of the order remains a priority, which additionally means KL Rahul is set to continue anchoring the middle order at number five for the time being.
