Australia's legendary speedster Mitchell Starc has added another feather in his cap during the second Test match of the Ashes as he became a part of a very rare club in Test cricket. On Day 3 of the second Test at the iconic Gabba Stadium, Starc scored a half-century after taking a five-wicket haul in the same clash.
Starc becomes 3rd cricketer to reach this milestone
With this, he becomes the third cricketer in history to do this. The first player to achieve this feat was Sri Lanka’s Dilruwan Perera, who scored 50+ and claimed a fifer against Pakistan in Dubai in 2017. After him, West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder did the same during the 2018 Test in Bridgetown against Sri Lanka.

Starc's new record in Test batting
Starc also created another impressive record as he has scored the most runs by a No. 9 batter in Test cricket. He has 1,408 runs from 64 Tests and 77 innings, with eight half-centuries and a highest score of 99. He has passed England pacer Stuart Broad, who made 1,389 runs from 67 Tests at No. 9.
Australia vs England Gabba Test
Coming back to the match, England managed to score 334 runs in the first innings, where Joe Root scored an unbeaten 138 after Jofra Archer was dismissed thanks to a brilliant diving catch by Marnus Labuschagne off Brendan Doggett.
Starc was the pick of the bowlers for Australia, picking six wickets, conceding 75 runs, which was his second five-wicket haul of the Ashes and the 18th of his Test career.
Australia were off to a good start as they scored a mammoth 511 in their first innings and took a solid lead of 177 runs. Jake Weatherald (72), Marnus Labuschagne (65), Steve Smith (61), Alex Carey (63) and Starc himself (77) all made important contributions.
