In a massive boost for India, their pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has made it clear that he is available to play in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 which is slated to get underway from September. As per a report by Indian Express, Jasprit Bumrah has apprised the selectors of his readiness to play a few days ago. This news came right after Suryakumar Yadav cleared the fitness test in Bengaluru.
Jasprit Bumrah informs selectors about his availability for Asia Cup
Notably, India's selection committee is all set to meet on August 19 in Mumbai. They will select a 15-member India's squad for the Asia Cup 2025, which will be played in a T20 format in the UAE.
In a significant boost for Team India, star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has made himself available for the 2025 Asia Cup.
To manage his workload, star bowler Jasprit Bumrah was released from the Test squad for the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at the Oval. Bumrah played in the first, third, and fourth Tests of the series. He was rested for the second Test at Edgbaston, which India went on to win.
Throughout the series, Bumrah bowled a total of 119.4 overs and claimed two five-wicket hauls. As the Asia Cup will be played in the T20 format, he won't be required to bowl long spells. This will allow the team management to carefully manage his playing time. Bumrah will have a break of nearly 40 days between his last Test match in England and the start of the Asia Cup. His last T20 International appearance was in the 2024 T20 World Cup final against South Africa in Bridgetown, where he took 2 for 18 in a seven-run victory for India.
The same report also suggested that Suryakumar Yadav-led side will be traveling to the UAE early for the Asia Cup. Most of the players will be heading to the tournament without any prior match practice. The BCCI had proposed a short camp in Bengaluru, but the team management opted to fly out early instead, believing it would be more beneficial for the players to acclimate to the local conditions.
India, who are placed in Group A, will start their Asia Cup 2025 campaign with a clash against UAE on September 10 followed by a key clash against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 14. India will then take on Oman on September 19 in their last group-stage match.
