Sanju Samson is on a roll in the ongoing Kerala Cricket League (KCL) 2025 as he came up with yet another blistering knock right ahead of Asia Cup 2025. Kochi Blue Tigers' swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batter delivered a masterful performance against the Trivandrum Royals. Opening the batting, Sanju Samson cracked a blistering 37-ball 62 at a stunning 167.57 to help Kochi Blue Tigers post a competitive total.
Sanju Samson's cracking fifty in KCL ahead of Asia Cup 2025
The Trivandrum Royals' decision to bowl first after winning the toss quickly seemed ill-advised as Samson, alongside his opening partner Vinoop Manoharan, launched an aggressive assault. The pair forged a rapid 68-run partnership for the first wicket, putting the opposition on the back foot. While Manoharan contributed a valuable 42 runs, it was Samson who tormented the Royals' bowling attack with his exquisite stroke play.
Continuing his remarkable run of form, Samson's innings marked his third consecutive fifty-plus score in the KCL 2025. His commanding 37-ball stay at the crease was decorated with four boundaries and five massive sixes, setting the tone for a formidable score. His impressive knock was eventually brought to an end at a critical moment by bowler Abhijith Praveen V.
Samson recently revitalised his T20 International career after stepping in as an opener to replace Rohit Sharma. The batsman from Kerala seized the opportunity, delivering three blistering centuries that made a strong case for his inclusion in India's starting lineup for the upcoming Asia Cup. However, Samson's position has been thrown into uncertainty with the return of Shubman Gill to the T20I squad. Widespread reports suggest that the team management is considering a new opening partnership featuring Gill alongside Abhishek Sharma, a development that could jeopardize Samson's spot in the team.
Despite the competition, Samson's exceptional form in the KCL could force the Indian selectors to reconsider their plans. His continued high-scoring performances may compel the team management to find a way to accommodate him in the batting order. Riding on Samson's fiery half-century, along with valuable contributions from teammates Nikhil Thottath and Jobin Joby, powered the Kochi Blue Tigers to a strong total of 191/5 in their stipulated 20 overs.
