It is a historic day for Bangladesh cricket after the visitors 458 (Mominul 88, Litton 86, Boult 4-85) and 40 for 2 (Shanto 17, Mominul 13 not out) beat New Zealand 328 (Conway 122, Nicholls 75, Shoriful 3-69, Mehidy 3-86) and 169 (Young 69, Taylor 40, Ebadot 6-46, Taskin 3-36) by eight wickets, in the first Test match, played at Mount Maunganui.

This is the first-ever victory for Bangladesh against New Zealand in Test cricket. Both the countries have faced each other 16 times and three of those fixtures have ended up as a draw with New Zealand bagging victory 12 times. Bangladesh beat New Zealand for the first time in Tests to break a 17-match unbeaten home record. It is only their sixth overseas Test win.

Bangladesh dominating

All these stats and numbers might surpass the fact that how Bangladesh dominated New Zealand, in their home conditions, for all five days.

Bangladesh fast bowler Ebadot Hossain, was the best performer for Bangladesh in the bowling unit. On the fifth day morning, the 27-year-old right-arm pacer scalped two wickets to take his figures to 6-46, the first six-for by a Bangladesh fast bowler in more than eight years.

"In the last two years, I have been working with (bowling coach) Ottis Gibson," Ebadot said after the match.

"Conditions are always flat at home. We are still learning how to bowl and reverse in away conditions. I am trying to hit the top of the stumps. I needed to be a little patient for success to come."

Benchmark for the upcoming players

Ebadot said that the victory over New Zealand will be a goal for future generations of Bangladesh's cricketers.

"I would like to give thanks to Allah for the Test win. Our brothers and teams didn't get win in the last 21 years in New Zealand. We set a goal this time. We raised our hand.

"We have to beat New Zealand in their own soil. Now that we have defeated the Test champions, our next generation has to beat New Zealand."

Bangladesh reached their 40-run target, in 16.5 overs during the first session only. Bangladesh openers- Shadman Islam and Najmul Hossain Shanto were caught behind. For Bangladesh, Mushfiqur Rahim, country’s highest run-scorer in Tests scored the winning runs.
