South Africa has faced another blow a day after Anrich Nortje's confirmation of not featuring in the Champions Trophy 2025 due to a back injury. Another speedster Gerald Coetzee who featured in India during the ODI World Cup 2023 is currently facing an injury setback that threatens his participation in the SA20 and potentially the Champions Trophy 2025.

Coetzee, who was expected to replace the injured Nortje in South Africa’s Champions Trophy squad, has been sidelined due to a hamstring issue, casting doubt over his immediate availability, reported ESPNCricinfo on Friday (January 17).

The speedster's exclusion from the Joburg Super Kings’ XI vs Pretoria Capitals raised concerns over his participation in the mega event. Coetzee has recently made his cricketing comeback after recovering from injuries and he was potentially a candidate for the Proteas Men because of his express pace and ability to score valuable runs lower down the order.
