Shubman Gill was a key player in India's triumph.

He gets big reward from ICC.

Shubman Gill, the star batsman for India, was named the February ICC Player of the Month, on March 12 (Wednesday). After his outstanding performances in the ODI series against England in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Gill was selected ahead of Glenn Phillips of New Zealand and Steve Smith of Australia. With 259 runs from three innings at an average of 86.33 and a century and two fifties to his credit, the opening batsman ended up becoming the series' top run scorer against England. He was also named the Player of the Series after India defeated England 3-0 thanks to his outstanding effort.

Gill on becoming Player of the Month

In India's Champions Trophy opening match, the 25-year-old hit an even more impressive century with an innings of 101* (129), which included two sixes and nine fours. India began their winning campaign on a high note thanks to his innings, which enabled them to chase down 229 in 46.3 overs.

After his outstanding accomplishment, Gill said he was thrilled to receive the honor and that he was looking forward to the exciting cricket season ahead, hoping to win a lot more matches for India.

“I am elated to win the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for February. Nothing gives me more motivation than performing with the bat and winning matches for my country. The lead up to the Champions Trophy 2025 was very crucial and I am glad I was able to make the most out of it. It has been a phenomenal start to the year individually as well as for us as a unit. I am looking forward to an action-packed cricketing year ahead and hope to win many more matches for India,” said Gill in a media release.

 

 

In addition, Gill contributed a significant 46 (52) to India's six-wicket victory over Pakistan in their second match. With 188 runs from five innings at an average of 47 and a century, he was India's third-highest run scorer in the competition. Apart from Gill, Australia's Alana King won Women's Player of the Month for her game-winning bowling performances in the Ashes Test against England.

Australia won by an innings and 122 runs thanks to the wrist spinner's 9/98 statistics. After a vote by international fans and a specialized jury made up of media representatives, past international players, and ICC Hall of Famers, King and Gill were declared the victors.
