Coldplay's front man Chris Martin yet again won fans' hearts as he dedicated a beautiful song for India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. Jasprit Bumrah made a surprise appearance at Coldplay's final concert in India, held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, January 26. Bumrah, being a local, had been mentioned by Coldplay's lead singer Chris Martin during their concerts in Mumbai, prompting a reaction from the Indian pacer on his social media.
Chris Martin sings beautiful song for Jasprit Bumrah
During the Ahmedabad concert, Bumrah made a surprise appearance during Chris Martin's fan interaction segment. The crowd erupted in joy as Bumrah appeared on the grand screen, and Martin dedicated a song to the Indian fast bowler, creating a memorable moment for the fans.
“Jasprit my beautiful brother, best bowler in the whole of cricket, we don't enjoy watching you destroy England, taking wicket after wicket,” Martin dedicated the song to Bumrah.
During the first Coldplay concert in Navi Mumbai, Chris Martin jokingly claimed that Jasprit Bumrah was backstage and had requested a pause in the performance so he could bowl at Martin. However, at the following concert, Martin clarified that his previous statement was a fabrication. He humorously explained that Bumrah had sent him a message expressing disapproval of being mentioned in the show, stating that he was 'the greatest bowler in the world.'
To further acknowledge Bumrah, Martin showcased a clip of the Indian pacer dismissing England batter Ollie Pope with a toe-crushing yorker during a recent Test series. This gesture, along with Bumrah's surprise appearance at the Ahmedabad concert, highlights the mutual respect and admiration between the renowned musician and the celebrated cricketer.
"Today, Bumrah sent us a serious message. He said, 'Listen, I did not give you permission to talk about me in your shows. I am the greatest bowler in the whole world.' So, with respect and love for Jasprit, number one in the world, we hope that we send love to him by showing you this clip of India destroying England," Martin had said during the second show.
Following the humorous exchange, a clip of Bumrah's iconic yorker that dismissed England batter Ollie Pope during England's Test tour of India in 2024 was played on the giant screen at the concert. This further emphasized Bumrah's prowess and entertained the audience. Bumrah, clearly amused by the on-stage banter and the subsequent events, responded to the newfound attention on his social media platforms. His reaction further added to the excitement generated by this unique interaction between the world of music and cricket.
"This made me smile! Incredible vibe at the Coldplay concert in Mumbai (from what I've seen here) and even more special to be mentioned," Bumrah had wrote on Instagram.
Bumrah, one of India's premier fast bowlers, has been recognized for his exceptional performances across formats by being named in the ICC's Test and T20I Team of the Year. However, he is currently sitting on the sidelines as he is nursing his back injury which he picked during Sydney Test against Australia. Despite concerns surrounding his fitness, Bumrah has been included in India's squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy. The BCCI's medical team is yet to provide an official update on his recovery.
