India vice-captain Shubman Gill smashed his seventh ODI century against England in the third ODI at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The star player who opened the batting alongside Rohit Sharma was joined by Virat Kohli during the second over as Mark Wood picked India's captain's wicket in his first over.
Kohli who got out on just five runs in the second ODI stitched a 116-run partnership alongside Gill that helped India to score 356 runs. Gill said that he had a chat with Kohli while batting and they decided to rotate the strike without losing wickets in the powerplay. The 116-run stand was broken by Adil Rashid's spin, trapping Virat for the fifth time in his career for a well-made 52 in 55 balls, with seven fours and a six.
"Definitely (asked if this is the best he's batted in this format). I was feeling good. I think this was one of the better knocks in ODIs for me. The pitch was a bit tricky at the start so it's satisfying. There was a bit for the fast bowlers. It was seaming, so the chat (with Virat) was to rotate strike and not lose wickets in the powerplay, build on the momentum and take it from there. (On his approach while batting) You are just reacting to what is coming to you without thinking too much" said Gill while receiving Player of the Series award.
Gill who scored 87 and 60 in the first and second ODI flexed his form by smashing 112 off 102 in the third ODI helping India to register a dominating 114-run win against England with that win India secured a clean sweep series win over England.
Team India will now depart to Dubai on February 15 for the Champions Trophy where they will start their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20.
