United States of America's batting sensation Shayan Jahangir, who recently rose to fame after cracking a brilliant century against in the ODI World Cup qualifiers couple of days back. Jahangir belted his maiden ODI century against Nepal in which he scored an unbeaten 100 runs off 79 balls which was studded with 10 boundaries and three sixes. Riding on his batting exploits Jahangir steered USA to 207 from a perilous 128/7. However his efforts went in vain as Nepal got the better of USA by six wickets.
Meanwhile, the 28-year-old has made a wish and voiced his desire to play against the Indian batting juggernaut Virat Kohli as he wants to prove his prowess and demonstrate that he is capable of playing at the highest level of cricket.
In an Instagram video Jahangir stated that his ultimate goal is to compete against Virat Kohli.
“Play against Virat Kohli man! That’s my ultimate goal to play against him and show him that there is another… I wouldn’t say king but another batter on the block waiting to get all the opportunities in the world, play all these big leagues, and show what I am capable of doing”, said the 28-year-old USA batter who has played nine ODI’s.
As far as Jahangir's track record is concerned, he has amassed 235 runs at an average of 33.57 and a strike rate of 90.37 in nine ODIs so far. Meanwhile, Overall, Jahangir has played 4 first-class, 15 List A and 1 T20 in which he scored 361 runs. Back in November 2022, Jahangir made his debut for the USA against Namibia at the Wanderers Cricket Ground in Windhoek.
Notably, Jahangir plied his trade in Pakistan before playing for the USA. He also featured in the Pakistan's Under-19 team alongwith the likes of Imam-ul-Haq, Sami Islam and Hussain Talat. Jahangir has also represented Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
