Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh was on fire against co-hosts USA in India’s third T20 World Cup 2024 group stage game at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York. Arshdeep bagged four wickets for just nine runs and broke Ravichandran Ashwin’s record for best bowling figures for India in T20 World Cups. As Suryakumar Yadav’s unbeaten half-century helped India chase down 111 to complete hat-trick of wins, Arshdeep was adjudged ‘Player of the match’.
After the match, Arshdeep revealed that he was not happy with his performances in the previous two games. He conceded 31 runs from his quota of four overs against Pakistan. In India's campaign opener he got two wickets by conceded 35 runs from four overs.
“Very very happy with the performance. In the last two games, I gave away little more runs, wasn't happy with that. The team always shows belief in me and keep backing me, I had to deliver for them,” a content Arshdeep said in the post-match presentation.
Arshdeep’s plan vs USA
Arshdeep did not concede a single boundary. He started the innings with the wicket of Shayan Jahangir who replaced an injured USA captain Monank Patel. He bagged two wickets in the first over. He also dismissed Nitish Kumar who was looking to score quickly.
“The wicket is very conducive to fast bowlers and it's helping us get some seam movement. The plan was simple, pitch it in the wicket and let the ball do the talking. Don't give easy balls to score, our batsmen are also facing difficulties to score runs. The plan was to hit the hard lengths. In conditions like this, you can use the wicket more,” said the 25-year-old.
“When you are playing international cricket, you need to have some routines and the way you take care of your body counts. All the bowlers have done extremely well, looking forward to do the same in the next leg as well,” he added.
With a hat-trick of wins, India have qualified for T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 stage. They will face Canada in their next encounter on June 15 in Florida.
