India's in-form batter in the ongoing Under-19 World Cup 2024 continued his form with a 131-run knock against New Zealand in the Super Six clash. Musheer, brother of Sarfaraz unleashed a few unorthodox shots during his splendid knock. Towards the end of the innings, he managed to recreate his version of former Indian captain MS Dhoni's trademark ‘helicopter shot’.
In the 46th over of the innings, Musheer took on fast bowler Mason Clarke. He picked the slower one early and played the 'helicopter shot' to send the ball sailing over deep mid-wicket.
In Clarke's next over, Musheer hit two more boundaries before losing his wicket. He scored 131 runs from 126 balls including 13 fours and three sixes. His knock helped India post 295/8 on the board.
Musheer's Under-19 World Cup campaign so far
This was Musheer’s second century of the ongoing tournament. He is also the leading run-scorer and has a chance to break South Africa’s Dewald Brevis’ record of most runs in a single edition. In the previous edition, Brevis had scored 506 runs from six innings breaking Shikhar Dhawan’s record by just one run.
Musheer also became the second Indian after Dhawan to score two or more centuries in a single edition of the Under-19 World Cup.
Earlier, in India's campaign opener, he was dismissed cheaply for a single-digit score. But he contributed with the ball taking two crucial wickets against defending champions Bangladesh. India won the match by a comfortable margin of 84 runs.
In the second match, he scored 118 runs from 106 balls against Ireland. India won the game by a massive margin of 201 runs. In the last group stage encounter, he scored 73 runs from 76 balls against the USA contributing to India's mammoth total of 326/5. India beat the USA by 201 runs.
Musheer, younger brother of Sarfaraz Khan has been a consistent performer. Earlier in January, he showed that his left-arm spin is effective with a five-wicket haul against South Africa in the tri-nation series which worked as a preparation for the big event.
