Smriti Mandhana cracked the fastest 5000 ODI runs during Women's World Cup clash against Australia

Mandhana took just 112 innings to complete 5000 ODI runs

India's star batter Smriti Mandhana added another remarkable achievement to her record-breaking spree on October 12. After already becoming the first batter in women's ODI history to score 1,000 runs in a calendar year, she went on to become the fastest and youngest batter in the world to reach 5,000 runs in Women's ODIs (WODIs).

Smriti Mandhana clocks massive World Record

Mandhana clocked this milestone during the Women's World Cup 2025 match against Australia, which came off in just her 112th ODI innings. This incredible feat surpasses the previous record, which was held by former West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor. Taylor had reached the 5,000-run mark in her 129th innings. Mandhana's record-breaking pace is also evident when considering the number of balls faced.

In terms of balls played, Mandhana remains the fastest batter globally to score 5,000 runs in WODIs. For comparison, New Zealand batter Suzie Bates required 6,182 balls to join the 5,000-run club back in 2022, whereas Mandhana has needed only 5,569 balls to reach the same landmark.

Fastest to 5000 runs in Women's ODIs:

Stafanie Taylor West Indies 129 7218
Suzie Bates New Zealand 136 6182

Charlotte Edwards England 146 7711

The left-handed batter, Smriti Mandhana, is now the fifth cricketer overall in the world to reach the 5,000-run milestone in Women's ODIs (WODIs). She joins an elite group of players who have achieved this remarkable feat.

The first cricketer to reach 5,000 WODI runs was the legendary England batter and former captain, Charlotte Edwards, who did so in 2013. India's own Mithali Raj followed her onto the exclusive list in 2015. Stafanie Taylor of the West Indies became the third player to achieve this milestone in 2021.

Mithali Raj currently tops the list of batters with the most runs in WODIs. In her extensive 23-year career, spanning from 1999 to 2022, Mithali played 232 ODIs and amassed a total of 7,805 runs. The list of all-time leading run-scorers is completed by Edwards, New Zealand's Suzie Bates, and Stafanie Taylor, with Mandhana now being the fifth member.

Mandhana's insane record against Australia

Mandhana also holds a specific record against one of the toughest opponents in the game. She now has ten 50+ scores in WODIs against the Australian team, which is the most by any Indian batter. She broke the previous record held by Mithali Raj, who had crossed the 50-run mark nine times against the seven-time ODI World Cup winners during her career. Furthermore, Mandhana has been exceptionally consistent recently against the 'Southern Stars,' scoring five 50+ scores in her last five 50-over matches against them
