Star Indian player Yashasvi Jaiswal was taken out by Mitchell Starc with the opening delivery of the pink-ball Test match at the Adelaide Oval. Starc let the ball straighten and strike the pads after swinging it from the leg-stump line. Yashasvi went across in an attempt to cover the line, but he missed the delivery entirely.
Yashasvi appeared distressed as he walked back to the dressing room, shaking his head in exasperation. Mitchell Starc, on the other hand, was fired up after making a significant impact early in the second Test match. After a quick conversation with his opening partner, KL Rahul, Yashasvi began to go back without even asking for a review.
Jaiswal creates an embarrassing record
Jaiswal has joined an embarrassing record list after suffering a golden duck on the first ball of a Test match. The young Indian opener became the fourth player and first Indian in history to get out on the 1st ball of a Test match being played in Australia.
- Archie MacLaren (England): 1894
- Stan Worthington (England): 1936
- Rory Burns (England): 2021
- Yashasvi Jaiswal (India): 2024
Jaiswal is now the seventh batsman from India to be dismissed on the opening delivery of a Test match overall. It is interesting to note that the last Indian batter to record a golden duck on the opening ball in a Test match was his opening partner, KL Rahul.

- Sudhir Naik vs ENG (1974)
- Sunil Gavaskar vs WI (1983)
- Sunil Gavaskar vs PAK (1987)
- WV Raman vs NZ (1990)

India at 82/4 after first session
After India lost Jaiswal on the first ball of the match, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill helped India take a steady stand. Both of them joined a crucial 69-run partnership. However, soon after their partnership came to an end, India lost couple more wickets in quick successions. Rahul, Gill, and Virat Kohli all returned to the dugout in the first session itself.
Mitchell Starc was the star of the Australian side as he picked three crucial wickets and Scott Boland settled with one. Currently, Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant are on the pitch for India.
